Vinyl Flooring

Benefits of vinyl flooring

Vinyl flooring is one of the most affordable and resilient flooring solutions available. Vinyl is widely recommended for high-moisture areas such as bathrooms and kitchens. Vinyl floors can be easier to stand on for long periods of time compared to other hard surface flooring. The resiliency of vinyl flooring means that it’s more forgiving than many other flooring solutions when glasses or other objects are dropped on it. Vinyl’s cushioned construction is toddler-friendly and easier on aging, aching joints.

PC Flooring carries many qualities, styles, colours, and textures, which will allow a new vinyl floor to fit into your budget.

Vinyl wear layers

There are two common types of wear layers on vinyl flooring:

  • PVC is a basic vinyl wear layer. It is quite durable, but it does scuff more easily than the urethane version. It is recommended only for installation in below-average traffic areas as it is more difficult to maintain.
  • URETHANE is a wear layer that protects your floor from common scuffs and day-to-day wear. Vinyl floors with this finish can be used in even extreme traffic areas. High gloss and more matted finishes are available.

Vinyl floor installation

Vinyl flooring can be installed anywhere — below, on, or above grade — and can be installed over most subfloors. However, installing vinyl flooring does require precision and preparation. The subfloor must be smooth, flat, and dry prior to installation. Some yellowing can occur to the vinyl when it is installed over a concrete slab with moisture or radiant heating. Seaming the floor can be difficult and is usually best completed by one of PC Flooring’s installation professionals.

Vinyl floor maintenance

Vinyl flooring is very low maintenance, water resistant, and easy to care for. Following these tips will help maintain your vinyl floor:

  • For the first 24 hours after your new floor is installed, protect all the seamed areas, and don't walk on the seam sealer.
  • Vacuum regularly to remove grit and sand. Wash your floor occasionally with the manufacturer's recommended floor cleaner.
  • Wipe up spills.
  • Never use abrasive cleaners, soaps, paste waxes, or solvents on your vinyl floor.
  • Place mats at entry doors to help prevent sand and grit being tracked onto your floor.
